To take account of diverse concepts of gender, the Gender field on current versions of ASEBA paper forms (including forms printed from ASEBA-Web) is open-ended.

On ASEBA-Web, the field for Gender includes Another as an open-ended option where respondents can specify the assessed person's gender identification. When users score forms via ASEBA-PC, -Network, or -Web, they can select female norms, male norms, Integrated Norm Referenced Scoring, or gender-neutral raw scale scores.

With Integrated Norm-Referenced Scoring, ASEBA software determines whether the T score on each problem scale would be higher for female or male norms. It then assigns the higher T score. For strengths scales, the software assigns the lower of the T scores for female or male norms. Gender-neutral raw scale scores are the sums of the items comprising the scale. On hand-scored profiles, the gender-neutral score is displayed beneath the scale in the space labeled Total. On computer-scored profiles, the gender-neutral scale score is displayed beneath the scale’s bar graph in the space labeled Raw Score.

The Guide to Gender-Inclusive Assessment Using the ASEBA explains and illustrates these options.
