I Can Do Maths (ICDM)

Purpose: To inform teachers and parents about a student’s numeracy development in the early years of schooling
Range: First three years of school
Administration: Untimed, approximately 20 minutes – group or individual

I Can Do Maths (ICDM) assesses the early numeracy skills of children in the first two-three years of schooling. The questions in ICDM are designed to assess key learning objectives for the early years of schooling, with questions covering the three main areas of early numeracy: number, measurement and space.

• Based on national profile learning outcomes
• Photocopiable masters for individual profiles, diagnostic maps and descriptive reports
• Covers number, measurement and space
• ‘Ezi-guides’ to facilitate administration

Assessment Content:

• Students respond to orally administered questions
• Items are presented pictorially either in multiple choice format (tick a box) or as open-ended questions (write a number, shade boxes, measure)
