The Social Emotional Assets and Resilience Scales (SEARS) measures social-emotional competencies of children from 5-18 years of age with a multiple-perspective approach. It can be used to assess positive social-emotional attributes of children and adolescents, and is closely tied to the positive psychology movement.
It includes separate assessment forms for children (ages 8 to 12 years or Grades 3 to 6) and for adolescents (ages 13 to 18 years or Grades 7 to 12), as well as teacher report forms and parent report forms. The forms may be used for any combination of student, parent, and teacher assessment.
Separate short forms (12 items each) are available for each form, which are practical for repeated assessment (i.e., progress monitoring) or class- or school-wide screening of students.
All short forms consist of 12 items that best represent the general constructs measured by each form. The SEARS Short Form - Child is a self-report form completed by students in Grade 3-6 (ages 8-12).
