STARS 2: Relationship Building and Sexual Awareness for Kids with Autism

Educate young adults and build their self-esteem so they can make informed choices.

STARS 2 is designed to be used with youth in primary years through to high school.

The STARS 2 model concentrates on four areas:

1. Understanding Relationships
2. Social Skills Training
3. Sexual Awareness
4. Assertiveness

STARS 2 aims to promote positive sexuality and prevent sexual abuse. Assessment tools help identify the strengths and needs of each individual, and then the activities can be catered to address specific needs.

STARS 2 is an adapted version of the original STARS guidebook that is focused on school-aged children. The same comprehensive approach to sexuality education that was used in the original STAR guidebook is utilised in STARS 2.

Some topics and goals included are Expressing Preferences, Making Choices, Building a Positive Self-Image and Identity, Understanding Public and Private Behaviour, and many more.
