Basic concepts are the foundation of a child's education. They are words that a child needs to understand in order to perform everyday tasks like following directions, participating in classroom routines, and engaging in conversation. Basic concepts are crucial in order for students to be successful in reading, writing, and maths.

Suitable for PreK to Year 3, and for up to 12 players, Webber Basic Concepts Instructional Activity Program provides a systematic way to teach 54 basic concept pairs, receptively and expressively.

The 54 basic concept pairs were identified in the Wiig Assessment of Basic Concepts (WABC, published by Super Duper.

How to Play:

  1. Teach the concept pair (hot/cold, up/down…) using the pictures provided in the reproducible activity book.
  2. Present pictures of the targeted concept pair with a foil (a third item that is similar, but incorrect).
  3. Have the student identify three concept pairs on the game board while asking receptive and expressive questions from the activity book.
  4. As reinforcement, give each student an 'ice-cream cone' and add scoops of ice cream for answering questions correctly.

Game boards can be reproduced for classroom use or can be sent home for extra practice.

Webber Basic Concepts Instructional Activity Program includes:

  • 52 concept boards (25cm x 28cm)
  • 12 foam ice-cream cones (7.5cms)
  • 90 foam ice-cream scoops (5cms)
  • 4 non-toxic dry erase markers
