WellComm Toolkit

Purpose: Screen children for speech and language ability, often identifying problems before they become more serious, and provides activities to address them.

Age: 6 months – 6 years (Early Years); 6–11 years (Primary)

Time: 20 minutes

Delayed language skills set the scene for under-performance later in life, yet many children still arrive in primary school undiagnosed.

WellComm Early Years (6 months-6 years) and WellComm Primary (6-11 years) toolkits enable you to quickly and easily identify children needing speech and language support, and provides a means of monitoring the success of strategies used to enhance communication skills.

Both products are quick and simple to use (requiring no specialist speech and language expertise) by teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs and Early Years Practitioners – and can be used as many times as needed.

Once the screening is complete, the results can be seen in an easy-to-read traffic light report system: Green = no intervention needed, Amber = provide extra support and Red = consider referral to an SLT. Advice and follow-up activities are suggested, and re-screening shows you whether the child is improving.

The Report Wizard is a reporting tool to enable scores to be calculated accurately and quickly – reducing the errors known to be made when scoring by hand, and automatically interprets the results of the assessment. It also instantly generates a range of customised reports, which can allow users to include their own interpretations and comments. These reports include:

WellComm provides 150+ age-appropriate, play-based activities in the 'Big Book of Ideas', enabling teaching staff/practitioners to deliver appropriate and focused activities to target pupils with language difficulties, enhance skills of those developing within the normal range and provide guidance for group-based teaching. The activities can also be used at home so that effective support is provided whether or not a child is referred to a Speech and Language Therapist.

Both the WellComm Early Years and WellComm Primary Kits include a 12 month subscription to the Report Wizard. Additional 12 month subscriptions can then be purchased as required.
