The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule - Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a semistructured, standardised assessment of communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and repetitive behaviours. By observing and coding these behaviours, clinicians can obtain information that informs diagnosis, intervention, treatment planning, and educational placement.
The ADOS-2 includes five modules, each requiring between 40-60 minutes to administer. The individual being evaluated is given only one module, selected on the basis of his or her expressive language level and chronological age:
Each Module offers standard activities designed to elicit behaviours that are directly relevant to the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), at different developmental levels and ages.
The ADOS-2 Module 2 Booklet provides structure to the administration, coding and scoring of Module 2. The Observation section is used by the examiner during the assessment to guide the presentation/observation of activities, and to take notes.
The Coding section is used directly after the session, when the examiner makes their overall ratings based on the individual's observed behaviour.
Once Coding has been completed, the Algorithm form is used to facilitate the scoring.
