The Adult Self-Report (ASR) and Adult Behaviour Checklist (ABCL) obtains adults' self-reports of diverse aspects of adaptive functioning and problems (ASR), and obtains reports from people who know the adult well (ABCL).

The ASR and ABCL are suitable for use with clients from 18-59 years of age.

The ABCL DSM-5 Oriented Profile scales include:

  • Depressive Problems
  • Anxiety Problems
  • Somatic Problems
  • Avoidant Personality Problems
  • Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Problems (Inattention and Hyperactivity/Impulsivity subscales)
  • Antisocial Personality Problems

If a client obtains a high score on a particular DSM-5 Oriented Scale, it may suggest that the clinician should check to see whether the client meets criteria for any diagnoses corresponding to that scale.

DSM-5 Update

For the ASR and ABCL, the revised Anxiety Problems scale comprises age-appropriate items identified by the experts as being very consistent with DSM-5 criteria for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Separation Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, and Specific Phobia. The revised Somatic Problems scale comprises age-appropriate items identified by the experts as being very consistent with DSM-5 criteria for Somatic Symptom Disorder.

ASEBA forms are also scored on the following DSM-oriented scales for which the relevant criteria did not change from DSM-IV to DSM-5: Depressive Problems, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Problems, Oppositional Defiant Problems, Conduct Problems, Avoidant Personality Problems, and Antisocial Personality Problems.
