Assessing and Teaching Phonological Knowledge (ATPK) can be used to identify development level of phonological knowledge, assess whether difficulties are due to delayed or immature development, and recommend teaching procedures and follow up tasks.
The ATPK Task Sheets consist of five tasks of phonological knowledge that cover the span of development:
- Task 1: Acquiring implicit awareness of sound patterns in words
- Task 2: Segmenting words into sounds
- Task 3: Sound blending
- Task 4: Manipulating sounds within words
- Task 5: Phonemic recoding: bridging to written words
The Task Sheets are required to administer the assessment, and are also available in the ATPK Starter Set.
