The Cognitive Abilities Test™ (CogAT®) Form 7 assesses the level and pattern of cognitive development of students from Prep to Year 12, measuring general and specific reasoning abilities in three domains (verbal, quantitative and nonverbal). Because these abilities are closely related to an individual's success in school, CogAT results are helpful in planning effective instructional programs and adapting instruction to enhance students' chances of success in learning.

The CogAT Norms and Score Conversions Guide provides information relevant to teachers and staff who hand score the CogAT Form 7. The Guide covers all levels (5/6-17/18).

It covers:

  • Introduction
  • Overview of the score conversion process
  • How to convert scores
  • Preparing for interpretation
  • Norms Tables

The guide provides information on completing the following conversions:

  • Converting Battery raw scores to Universal Scale Scores
  • Converting Batter Universal Scale Scores to Composite Universal Scale Scores
  • Converting Battery and composite Universal Scale Scores to: Standard age scores, Ages or grade percentile ranks, Age or grade stanines, Normal Curve Equivalents

Once you have hand scored, you will have a raw score for each subtest and battery, and the number of items attempted for each subset and battery.

The relevant CogAT score key is also required for hand scoring.
