The Neale Instructional Video has been produced to help test users familiarise themselves with the procedure for administering the Neale Analysis of Reading Ability, 3rd Edition standardised Forms 1 and 2. Because the administration procedure involves several activities – listening to a child read aloud, prompting where necessary and recording reading errors, comprehension and the time taken to read each passage – it is important to be thoroughly familiar with the test procedure before using the Neale Analysis of Reading Ability.
The video illustrates good practice in administering the Neale Analysis and highlights some of the pitfalls that may occur. The recording is 30 minutes long and includes extracts from test sessions with three children of differing reading abilities. There is also commentary describing and linking various extracts.
Before playing the video you should read through the instructions in the Manual for administering the test. While listening to the recording you may find it useful to have in front of you the Individual Record for Form 2 since the children you will be listening to are all reading from Form 2 of the Reader.
