Covering oral reading and comprehension, discrimination of initial and final sounds, names and sounds of the alphabet, graded spelling, auditory discrimination and blending, word lists and silent reading and writing, the Neale 3rd ed. allows educators to measure the accuracy, rate of reading, reading progress and obtain diagnostic observations of reading behaviour.
The Neale 3rd ed. Diagnostic Tutor Form B, while parallel in style and grading to the standardised forms, is without norms.
Informal assessments, including criterion-referenced assessments and diagnostic teaching, are undertaken with the Tutor Forms.
Advanced work with those in secondary school or senior years is carried out using the Extension Passages in the Diagnostic Tutor Forms.
Diagnostic Tutor Forms A & B comprise parallel sets of six passages with Comprehension Questions.
All Forms in the Neale are colour-coded to the relevant Form in the Neale Reader. Diagnostic Tutor Form B is mauve.
