TORCH 3rd ed. Test Booklet

The Tests of Reading Comprehension 3rd ed. (TORCH 3) is a thoroughly researched and Australian-normed test used to identify comprehension levels, measure progress and use content-referenced interpretation to identify skills requiring further instruction. 

The <em>TORCH 3 Test Booklet</em> is a full-colour, reusable, 36-page booklet, which contains all 16 reading passages. The passages vary in length from 300 to 1100 words and include fiction and non-fiction texts in a variety of text types (informational, narrative and argumentative).

Answer sheets (suitable for hand scoring and for use with Test Scoring Services) are available for all passages in the test booklet.

Choosing a test
In order to choose an appropriate test, teachers will need to become familiar with the reading passages and have some general idea of the reading ability of their students. A teacher who is not familiar with the reading abilities of a group of students may with initially to administer a single TORCH test to the entire group, using the suggestions in the table below.
