Covering oral reading and comprehension, discrimination of initial and final sounds, names and sounds of the alphabet, graded spelling, auditory discrimination and blending, word lists and silent reading and writing, the Neale 3rd ed. allows educators to measure the accuracy, rate of reading, reading progress and obtain diagnostic observations of reading behaviour.
The Neale 3rd ed. Standardised Test Form 1 is used for recording a running count of errors for each passage that an individual reads, for the answers to the Comprehension Questions and for noting the time taken to read each passage.
Significant qualitative information concerning an individual's reading behaviour is also recorded on the Standardised Form.
All Forms in the Neale are colour-coded to the relevant Form in the Neale Reader. Standardised Test Form 1 is yellow.
Standardised Test 1 and 2 are parallel sets of six graded passages of prose, each forming a continuous reading scale for students aged from 6-12 years. Each passage is a complete narrative written according to the interests and age level to which it is assigned.
