Purpose: Aid in the identification and diagnosis of anxiety disorders

Age: 8-19 years

Time: 15 minutes

The Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children 2nd Edition (MASC-2) assesses the presence of symptoms related to anxiety disorders in youth aged 8 to 19 years. The measure distinguishes between important anxiety symptoms and dimensions that broad measures do not capture.

Key Features

  • Comprehensive assessment of anxiety-related symptoms in youth
  • Assesses a broad range of emotional, physical, cognitive and behavioural symptoms that represent important dimensions of childhood anxiety
  • Multi-rater assessment with parent and self-report ratings in order to gather in-depth, multi-perspective information (50-item self (MASC 2–SR) and parent (MASC 2–P) rating forms)
  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Index differentiates between children with an anxiety disorder and those in the general population
  • Option of computer-generated reports that describe a youth’s anxiety symptoms in detail

When used within a battery of assessments, the MASC-2 can aid in the identification and diagnosis of anxiety disorders. The MASC-2 can be used to screen large groups, identifying which individuals may be at risk for heightened anxiety symptoms, potentially requiring further evaluation.

  • Separation/Fears
  • Generalized Anxiety
  • Social Anxiety
  • Obsessions & Compulsions
  • Physical Symptoms

Online Administration and Scoring (MHS Assessment Center+)

The MASC-2 can be completed and automatically scored online. Online administration allows the assessor the flexibility to send a link to each respondent to complete the assessment at a location (e.g. home, workplace). Assessors using online scoring also have the option of printing E-Paper forms that can be scored online by entering the responses.

Paper-and-Pencil Administration and Scoring

All MASC-2 forms (self-report and parent) can be administered and scored using the MHS QuikScore format. The rater writes on the external layers of the form, and the results transfer through to a hidden scoring grid within the internal layers. The assessor then uses the internal layers for tabulating results. Each QuikScore form includes conversion tables, which are used to convert raw scores to T-scores
